From law degrees in Tbilisi to major roles across Nordic and Central European opera stages, Zaza’s path is uniquely inspiring.

Zaza Gagua is a multi‑award‑winning Georgian bass and currently a soloist at Staatstheater Darmstadt. Known for his commanding stage presence and vocal depth, his career spans prestigious opera houses and festivals across Scandinavia — including the Oslo Opera House and Opera Rogaland in Norway, Den Jyske Opera in Denmark, and Opera på Skäret in Sweden — as well as Germany (Staatstheater Darmstadt and the Immling Festival), France (Opéra du Capitole Toulouse), and Georgia (Tbilisi State Opera).

Originally a law graduate from Tbilisi State University, Zaza followed his passion for music to the Tbilisi State Conservatory, the Sibelius Academy, and the University College of Opera in Stockholm, where he completed his master's degree in 2019. He further refined his artistry as a member of the Young Artist Programme at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo.

His repertoire features iconic bass roles, including King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Seneca (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Ramfis and Il Re (Aida), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Colline (La Bohème), and Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte). A seasoned concert performer, Zaza is also highly regarded for his interpretations of the bass solos in Verdi’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem, which he has performed multiple times in Sweden as well as in the Faroe Islands and Iceland.
